The FRONT area of this residence, located in Sleepy Hollow, features several CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANTS, along with other drought-tolerant Mediterranean plantings.
This modern landscape design incorporates linear lines with a natural plant setting. The CA Native palette includes Festuca Idahoensis 'Siskiyou Blue', Ribes sanguineum glutinosum, Verbena lilacina 'De La Mina', Carpenteria Californica 'Elizabeth' and Toyon, along with other drought-tolerant, Mediterranean plants such as Pineapple Guava, Lambs Ears, Ferns and New Zealand Flax.
The BACK area of this residence contains a large swimming pool within a private setting of redwoods and oaks. I designed the landscape to echo the modern architecture and clean lines of the home, while creating a pleasant balance within this natural setting.
Tall dramatic planters with vibrant plantings of Cordyline (Festival Grass) and a vibrant green grass named Lomandra, accent the pathway along the length of the home. Concrete benches create a transition from the pool surround to the flagstone patio under the redwoods. The raised planters contain a mass planting of Kangaroo Paw with bright orange blossoms...adding a touch of drama and contrast.
